Air suspension gives every full-size Range Rover and Range Rover Sport its famous ride. It is also the system we repair most often in our Sharjah workshop. The reason is simple: UAE heat and fine dust are hard on rubber and on air compressors.
Which models have air suspension?
Air suspension is standard on the Range Rover (L322, L405, L460) and Range Rover Sport (L320, L494, L461), and on the Discovery 3, 4 and most Discovery 5 models. It is optional on the Velar and the new Defender. The Evoque uses conventional coil springs.
Early warning signs
- The car sits lower on one corner after being parked overnight
- A “suspension fault” or “reduced ride height” message
- The compressor runs for a long time, or you hear it running often while driving
- The car will not raise to off-road height, or is slow to lift when started
- A hissing sound near one wheel after parking
- A harsh, bouncy or uneven ride
Most owners first notice the car leaning in the morning. That is the moment to act, because a small leak is cheap compared with what comes next.
What actually fails
Air springs
The rubber bags dry out and crack, especially in the folds. Air escapes slowly, so the car drops over hours or days.
The compressor
A leak makes the compressor run longer and hotter. In 45 degree heat it eventually wears out or its relay fails. Replacing a compressor without fixing the leak almost always ends with a second failed compressor.
Valve block, lines and sensors
Valve blocks can leak internally, air lines can chafe, and ride height sensors can give false readings. Each one produces symptoms that look like a spring problem.
How a proper diagnosis works
- Full scan of the suspension module and stored fault codes
- Live readings from each height sensor and the compressor
- Leak testing of each spring, line and the valve block
- A clear report of what has failed and what is still healthy
This is the difference between replacing one air spring and replacing four springs plus a compressor “just in case”.
Repair options and parts
Air springs and compressors are available as genuine Land Rover parts, OEM parts from the original suppliers, or quality aftermarket parts. Each has a different price and expected lifespan. We explain the options and you decide. After any repair the system must be calibrated so the car sits level and every height mode works.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to drive a Range Rover with an air suspension fault?
For short, careful trips at low speed it is usually possible, but the car may sit on the bump stops and the compressor can overheat trying to keep up with a leak. Book it in quickly to avoid turning a spring repair into a compressor replacement.
How long do Range Rover air springs last in the UAE?
There is no fixed life. Heat, dust and how often the car changes height all matter. Many springs begin to crack and leak after several years, which is why we inspect them at every service.
Should I convert my Range Rover to coil springs?
A coil conversion removes features such as access height and off-road height and changes the ride. For most owners a correct air suspension repair is the better choice.
